Nat Lytle was a Black Mountain native (raised in Black Mountain and Asheville) who worked for Black Mountain College for over a decade. In the summers of 1933 and 1934, Nat Lytle worked odd jobs and some cooking at the college. From 1937-1938, he worked as an assistant cook, under Jack and Rubye Lipsey, in the kitchen. After three years in the army, he returned to the college from 1944-1946 and worked in the kitchen and on odd jobs.
